ECO

Greetings 2nd Grade Parents,

Tomorrow is our first day of ECO in Mrs. Raynor’s class!  We will be going outside for a few hours in the afternoon.

The weather is supposed to be sunny with temperatures in the mid-60’s.

Please make sure your child has a fleece to wear.   We will be in the woods most of the time so sneakers are best.

I am excited to work with your child this year!

If you have any questions about the program please call me at 272-4865 or email me at arob@u32.org.

Best,

Dear Families,
We are almost finished with Literacy assessments and are beginning Math assessments next week.  Ms. Levangie is sending home book bags this weekend.  Please find a note in the book bag that explains the routines with these bags.  Educating Children Outdoors (ECO) has begun!  Ms. Levangie’s homeroom had a great time this week during their first ECO meeting.  Mrs. Raynor’s homeroom is anxiously waiting for their first ECO meeting next Tuesday, September 30th.  Please remember that the days your child has ECO they will be outside all afternoon and should dress for the weather.
In Writing Workshop first and second graders are writing small moment narrative books and fall informational books.  Our science theme for the next two months is weather patterns and fall changes.  We are integrating ECO into writing curriculum by having students write about their experiences in the outdoor classroom.
Picture Retake Day is October 16, 2014
Please let us know if you would like to volunteer for ECO!
Ms. Levangie’s Class October Dates: 10/7 and 10/21

ECO

Greetings Calais Elementary parents and caregivers,

This year your child will be learning outdoors with their class as part of ECO - Educating Children Outdoors. ECO is a standards based nature immersion program that gets students out into their school yards, forests, fields and communities to learn more about the world around around them.

We would love to share more about this successful program, answer questions and meet all of you who are interested in volunteering.
Please join ECO staff on September 16th from 6-7 pm to learn about ECO and what we will be doing this year at Calais Elementary. We will be meeting in the 1st/2nd classrooms.

If you are unable to make it and have questions, please let me know.
We look forward to meeting you and having you join us in the forest this year!

Sincerely,
Amy Butler

It was great to see most of you at Open House!  It was a night of positive energy and the kids were so proud to show off their work.
We are launching writing workshop next week, Ms. Levangie will start with first grade and Mrs. Raynor will start with second grade.  Some writing blocks we will be together in combined grades and other times we will be in straight grades working on particular skills.  Through the next month we will be completing reading, writing, and math assessments.  It will be important to make sure your child is well rested and attending school regularly.
Please remember school is no longer providing a snack, so your child should bring a snack from home.  Also, all first and second graders will have PE daily and should bring the appropriate shoes.

First and Second Grade News!

September 5, 2014

Dear Families,

We are off to a great start this year.  We’ve been busy creating our classroom community, learning classroom routines, getting to know one another and exploring our learning styles.

We split into our Reading and Math workshops this week and students enjoyed being with their same grade friends.  In both workshops we introduced the routines and expectations and even had a little fun!

Both classrooms finished Fantastic Mr. Fox and we are completing a literature project together.  The students did an incredible job working in small groups using their creativity to add to the project.  Please look for your child’s work next week at Open House.

We are launching the writing workshop next week and will be starting literacy and math assessments in a few weeks.  Thanks for making sure your child is well rested and ready for school.

Classroom business:

Please remember there is no snack provided by the school this year.

Open House is Sept. 10, 6-7pm

ECO teacher, Alex Rob, will be contacting parent volunteers

Wellness Hike is Sept. 19th (please return forms asap)

Hope to see you all next week!

Sincerely,
