First and Second Grade News
February
20, 2015
Dear
Families,
Hopefully
we’ll all be getting some outside time this week whether you’re flying south or
waiting for the sap to run. We finished
our unit on sound and have the instruments displayed in the hallway along with
“How To” books and reports. The students
have worked hard this month and both classes have earned celebrations for
today. The first and second graders led
the all school Morning Meeting today and did a great job! Please check out all the wonderful writing
first and second graders are doing when you come for Town Meeting!
We
will be launching our Science and Informational writing unit after the
break. Students will be writing reports
about their individual ECO animals along with other writing about ecosystems.
In
Reading Workshop we will be reading across genres in first grade and exploring
different texts on the same subject. The
second graders will be deepening their knowledge in non-fiction reading as they
work in reading clubs for the month of March.
In
Math first graders will be diving into a measurement unit and continue learning
strategies for solving addition facts.
The second graders will begin a fraction unit, I will introduce the
concept of halves, thirds, and fourths, and will continue to practice their
problem solving skills.
