First and Second Grade News – June 5, 2015

Dear Families,
We have only 6 ½ school days left of the year!  The students have worked hard this week to complete many assessments and wrap up a variety of different projects.  Next week we will finish writing narrative books and making Eric Carle-like illustrations for these books.  We will also begin the classroom cleaning process, so please make sure students have backpacks to bring home all their classroom treasures.
It is “house cleaning” time and we would ask that you please carefully check your home for any books or supplies that belong here at school.  Specifically, we are looking for classroom books, library books, and coins that students may have earned for working hard, being safe, or being kind.  We will also be collecting students’ book bags at the end of the year.

Important Upcoming Dates:
LAST ECO FOR ALL 1st and 2nd Graders - Tuesday, June 9 @ 1:00-3:00
Step Up Day – Wednesday, June 10 9:00-9:45am
Paper Making Lesson with Chrissy – Wednesday, June 10 1:30-2:30pm

Recycling lesson with Chrissy

Today first and second graders learned about the recycling process. They learned what is and is not recyclable and what happens to the things we recycle after they leave our school and homes.

First and Second Grade News

May 22nd, 2015

Dear Families,

We had a fantastic hike yesterday up to Chickering Bog.  All of us learned so much new plant, tree and bog information from our research and our amazing chaperones.  Thank you to all of you who took the day to join us!  For those who took Tuesday and couldn’t make it yesterday, our apologies.  The weather could not have been better for keeping the bug count down.

We have most permission slips back for our two fieldtrips this coming week. If you are joining us for the Montshire Museum trip please be here by 8:50.  We will be back to school by 3:15.

We are winding down in all of our core subjects.  Students are busy working on their “image making” narrative stories.  We will be assessing students in the coming two weeks in reading, writing and math.  Our students have all made excellent progress this year!  Please keep up the reading this summer.

On that note, please look for any school books at home especially classroom texts for reading.  We depend on these teaching materials.  Thanks!

CHICKERING BOG HIKE RESCHEDULED

Hi Parents of 1st and 2nd Graders, Due to thunderstorms and just rainy weather in the forecast for tomorrow we are rescheduling our hike to Chickering Bog  for Thursday, May 21.  Please plan for the same schedule as before; chaperones should plan to be at school at 9:45 in order to leave at 10:00. We plan to return to school at 2:00pm.  If you are a chaperone and now cannot make it because of the change in date please let us know so we can plan accordingly. Many families said that they would be sending their child in with a bagged lunch that day, please make sure you remember to do so if you did not sign up for a school lunch.  Also, please be sure students are prepared for that day, we suggest bringing sun block, bug spray, a hat, water bottle (preferably not glass for this trip), and great hiking/walking shoes (PLEASE NO FLIP FLOPS).  All students will need a backpack that day and will be expected to carry their own lunch and supplies for the day.  We will be outside for most of the day.

Thank you and sorry for any inconvience this has caused,Randilee and Lisa
