Newsletter

December 5, 2014

Dear Families,
Wow, it is already December!  We have a busy month ahead full of great learning opportunities, singing, showing generosity, and just having fun.  1st and 2nd grade students have begun singing holiday songs together every morning to kick off the holiday season.  We are impressed at what good singers they all are!  We are hoping to put together a trip to the Woodridge Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Berlin this month to share our great singing voices with some of the residents there.

This month there will not be a new math game sent home because it is short and busy month.  However, all students are working on money in one way or another; it would be great practice for them to count any coins they could.  First graders are working to know all coin names and their values, while second graders are working to be able to add multiple coins together to find their value.

In Reading Workshops we have launched our non-fiction units and both first and second graders are diving in and loving it!  We are working on “How To” books in both first and second grade Writing Workshops.  We have started our new science and social studies unit on light and how cultures around the world celebrate with light at this time of the year.  If you have any expertise or knowledge about a holiday and would like to come and share with our students we would all greatly appreciate it!
We will once again have ECO together with both 1-2 classes on December 23rd, more details about the plan for the day will be coming your way.
